PS Please note that I've read that the RX1R version2 can have problems with autofocus using single shot focus mode details can be found in above link but it works fine on my version 1.
Sooo if I wasn't eager to do the modification of the Sony WA adapter I know my skill set do you think I'd be nearly as happy with the Ricoh adapter? I have an RX1 and would kind of like to take a minimalist kit with me on an upcoming overseas trip. The RX1 and the adapter would probably cover most of what I'd want to shoot. I would say so as long as you know to get the best from it you wil need to stop down when using it. Does the Ricoh lens simply thread directly onto the RX1?
I just did the conversion. Thanks for the great info. Mine is a bit snug. I need to turn the macro ring a bit and then snug it up. Is that ok? Or should I take a bit more off the barrel? I decided before recently buying RX1r, I would embrace it's 35mm, and I have been doing very well at that. For wider, I have 24mm on rxm3, but, wider on FF sensor, you have awakened the beast. Ever the bargain hunter, I found and ordered this inexpensive. They tried it on RX1r, saw no vignette. I'll try it walking around NYC, keep or return it.
Get a better one if I find I am using it enough. I'm also thinking about being able to take large group shots at family gatherings.
I shoot Jpeg, handheld. What tripod test shots would be revealing of undesirable results? I would file it down further, you shouldn't need to put it in macro mode to get it to fit right. I would do some tests to see what the IQ is like across the frame I know I am a very small minority 1 being willing to try inexpensive things on such a pricey camera, but, I have been successful in the past, including inexpensive ebay conversion lenses for my Sony S85 and R1.
Before that I bought and returned very pricey Sony conversion lenses, they were so dark they were unusable. I try inexpensive first, return it if not good enough, before spending more on a lens I find still has poor corners, and may stay in the drawer anyway. I never print large, so it has to look pretty good at 11" high max. Corners are usually the tell.
Nothing was worth using. I wanted the weight on the body, not the end of the telescoping lens. As a joke, I stuck my Oly 1. It came, corners not good, going back tomorrow. I blame you guys for awakening the beast! I have heard good things about Zunow, but I have never heard of that company. Also, if there would be a better forum or site to ask this, please let me know.
March 5th, , PM Adam Gold. Wow, full zoom through WA without vignetting may not be possible. Maybe it is, but it'll be tough to find, I think. A step-down ring would virtually guarantee vignetting at all focal lengths. Bigger database of users there. Tell us what your understanding of the difference between an adapter and a converter is in this context.
This sort of thing has cropped up before, and it has always been due to human error. March 5th, , PM Paul Anderegg. I know, wide is hard! The native 29mm of my lens stock is also a problem it seems.
I am focusing on this model for now. So difficult to find review on these little suckers. I don't mind paying a lot of money for one, I just want one that is of at least the performance of my old SD Century optics converts of ol'. March 5th, , PM Peter Siamidis. Good timing on this thread because I'm looking for the same thing. I'm also getting the AX and normally I'll use it as is, but sometimes the circumstance is such that I have to slap on a wide adapter. I'm skeptical of finding one that will be of good enough quality though.
On my NX30 I use the Sony VCL-HGA07B which was supposed to be good quality, but honestly it's not that great as the quality loss near the edges is obvious : Hopefully someone can recommend a quality one for 62mm, I'm willing to pay a lot to get one but finding accurate user reviews is very difficult. Reviews look good.
But make sure you have a good return policy. I'd call them. This scene has a lot of detail scattered around the frame, and shows how much the lens sharpens up as you stop down the aperture.
As you stop down, things look better. The purpose of the Sony Ultra wide converter is to turn your Sony FE 28mm into a 21mm lens ; which captures a much larger area than 28mm. But does the converter do a good enough job for the price? The technical image quality is pretty good when stopped down. New Sony rebates and rewards. New Zeiss FE lens.
